Create new part level maintenance activity across fleet

Top  Previous  Next

This procedure explains how to set up an activity for parts, i.e. on part level. If you enable an activity here, then by default it will be enabled for all parts of the corresponding product type in your fleet. If some corresponding parts of your fleet's vessels do not need a particular activity or an activity which must be further adapted for individual parts on corresponding products on certain vessels, you can disable or adapt it later here.

Important information about editing and deleting activities across your fleet:

If you edit a job across your fleet, then the new settings are applied to all vessels for which the job is enabled and for which the new settings do not concern settings which have been individualized for specific vessels.

If you delete a job across your fleet, then the job is deleted on all vessels, for which the job is enabled and regardless whether some settings have been individualized for specific vessels.

1.Go to menu "Maintenance" > "Admin jobs fleet".

2.Select a product in the IDM tree on the very left of the screen. On the right side, you will see a table "Job settings for parts of '____'" showing all existing maintenance activities across your fleet on part level.

3.Click "Load all parts" .

4.Select a part in the upper right table. This will list all existing maintenance activities for that part in the lower right table if there are already. Existing activities are also shown with an icon in the column "Activities". If there are no activities yet, set the ticker in the column "Job" and click on "Save".

5.Click the button "Add" below the table "Job activities". This will open a form called "Details", which allows you to set up the new maintenance activity.

6.Fill in the details form according to the explanations in Description of PMS settings.

7.Click "Save" .

8.If you need to add one or several documents, select the relevant job and click "Select instructions". Documents are managed through the DMS.

9.If you need to assign a specific job card to the maintenance activity, select the corresponding job and click "Select JC". Choose a job card in the column "Selection" and click "OK".

If there is no specific job card for the maintenance activity, then just skip this step. The default job card will be assigned to the maintenance activity.

Best Practice

Best Practice: If no measurements have to be taken and noted down, it is not useful to enter jobs with a very short interval (i.e. daily jobs). To reduce useless paperwork, combine daily jobs into weekly jobs, where the crew can confirm once a week, that the job was carried out daily. If requested, MESPAS can create company specific job cards for such jobs.

Create maintenance activities on engine columns

You may create jobs on a part that multiplied in part management for each column/unit of an engine (e.g. piston 1-8).

Theoretically you can create maintenance activities on several columns for any machinery on board. Practically this function is used on the main- and sometimes auxiliary engines only.

Best Practice

Best Practice: Maintenance activities on units are easily misused to overload the crew with paperwork: a weekly job on each cylinder liner, cylinder cover and starting valve of an engine with 8 Cylinders already results in 24 jobs to be carried out and job cards to be filled every week.

if a part is changed in part is replaced in part management.

1.PMS_createJobOnColumn

1.Go to "Maintenance" > "Admin jobs fleet" and add one or several jobs on part level as described above. On main engines there are generic parts for maintenance activities on columns labeled "for PMS" instead of a part no. or plate no. Use these parts.

2.When a job on part level is added, go to "Maintenance" > "Admin jobs vessel".

3.Select the engine on parts level in the left side treeball_A_t.

4.Enter the number of columns/units in the respective field ball_B_t.

5.Note that on a 6 cylinder engine there are 7 main bearings.

warning

As soon as a vessel database for the MESPAS Cube is created, the number of columns once entered can not be reduced anymore! So please be very careful when setting the number of columns.

1.Click on "Save". ball_C_t After the next synchronisation the vessel will have the respective jobs on each column.

2.When a part is replaced in part management section, the running hour counter starts at 0 hrs for new parts or continues the count of a reinstalled part. A running hour based job will become due accordingly.
